Alison Hesmer (Allison teaches our children's classes)
Studio One has allowed me to marry the best of two worlds: a love of the arts and a love of children. I find art to be respite, healing and wonder. Children are God's joy and a privilege to teach. I'm thankful for the opportunity to combine a passion for painting with the satisfaction of watching children grow.
Paul Klee once said that "a line is a dot ... that went for a walk." It's definitely the walk that becomes the magnet. The children's classes I offer focus on the process of creation, through a series of lecture/discussion, examples and free time. Art at its best derives from many, many skills and thought processes, and ideally, these develop over time. My first goal is that each student enjoy the continual revelations that come from making art, and secondly, that they embrace the theories and concepts that have come before us.
Because art is so fun, I also offer recreational art camps during the summer as well as birthday parties and special events year round.
While I have a passion for helping children discover art through drawing, acrylics, oils and pastels, my personal medium of choice is acrylic painting, primarily for its quick drying times. Because of Sallie, Sophie and Simba, I love painting pet portraits, although I also enjoy painting landscapes, nature and still life. I am available for commissioned pieces, and my open inventory is carried by Studio One, La-d-da, Pups Restaurant and the Arts Council of Wilson's Lowe Gallery for Wilson Active Artists.
